Jo Joyner has claimed that EastEnders fans are divided over her character Tanya Jessop's reunion with ex-husband Max.

Tanya ended her affair with Max in August after learning she may have cancer, subsequently Max left Walford. Since then, Tanya has been battling cervical cancer with only daughter Lauren for support.  

However, Max returns home later this week and is keen to support Tanya when he finds out about her illness.

Jo Joyner has spoken about the responsibility and gratitude she feels at portraying Walford alter-ego Tanya Jessop's cancer storyline.

In next week's episodes, viewers will see Tanya refuse doctors' pleas to continue treatment for her cervical cancer. She then goes partying at the Vic where her rowdy behaviour attracts attention from the locals.

EastEnders to air additional Wednesday episode in a 'week to remember'

For the week of 21st to 25th November, EastEnders will be transmitting every week night on BBC One, in a week that sees the return of Max Branning (Jake Wood) and the arrival of his older brother Derek (Jamie Foreman).

The additional episode will air on Wednesday 23rd November following BBC Children in Need dislodging the normal Friday episode the previous week.

Jo Joyner has revealed that her Walford alter-ego Tanya Jessop has second thoughts over her cancer treatment in a future episode.

Tanya was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August and will begin a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy later this month.

Speaking to Soaplife about the upcoming hospital scenes, Joyner said: "Tanya bottles it. While Lauren pops away to get a drink of water, Tanya escapes to the toilet and thinks to herself, 'I'm too scared'.

Jo Joyner has said that viewers will notice changes in the appearance of her character Tanya Jessop as her cervical cancer storyline progresses.

Tanya was diagnosed with the illness in August and viewers will see her undergo further treatment next month.

Asked whether Tanya will start to look ill on screen, Joyner told Soaplife: "I'd like her to and I made a point of saying, 'Unless we ever see Tanya looking tired these references are going to be rubbish', because she's keeping up the pretence and putting on lots of make-up.
