Soaps win at Stonewall awards

EastEnders and Coronation Street both win awards for their recent storylines

There were wins on the cards for EastEnders and Coronation Street at the annual Stonewall Awards on November 4th 2010, which gives nods to events having a positive impact on the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the UK.

John Partridge, better known as Christian Clarke whose on-screen relationship with strict Muslim Syed Masood (Marc Elliott) saw him pick up the award for Entertainer of the Year.

And ITV didn’t go home empty-handed either.

An interview with Himesh Patel (Tamwar Masood)

Walford Web chats to Himesh Patel about playing Tamwar Masood and how romance is just around the corner…

Arriving on Albert Square in 2007, Tamwar Masood established himself as Walford’s very own ‘super geek’. With his heart set on the elite halls of Oxbridge, Tamwar spent most of his time in front of a laptop or buried in his text books while family chaos reigned around him.

He Needs His Father Right Now

If only there were any good ones out there...

It continues, the hypocrisy. Weak parents expecting their children to be, on the one hand stronger than they are, on the other, weak enough to succumb to them.

What Are They So Afraid Of?

Fear and loathing in Albert Square.

We have recently seen a spate of parent-child relationships in Walford where parents such as Lucas, Phil and Zainab have been offsetting their fears and insecurities onto their children and seeing them suffer all the more for it. The overarching fear of these parents is a weakness on the part of their respective children, but does the weakness fundamentally lie with them?

Marc Elliott On Christian and Syed

Actor had reservations about gay love plot.

EastEnders actor Marc Elliott - who plays Syed Masood in the soap - has spoken out about his initial worry over the Syed and Christian storyline in the show.

Chatting to whatsontv.co.uk on the red carpet at this year’s British Soap Awards, which were held in London on May 8th, Elliott revealed "I’ve had such an enourmous, juicy storyline. It’s been brilliant. I’ve had a big old marriage, a gay affair..."

Mitchell and Masood: A Clash of Styles

Homosexuality and Parenthood in Walford.

Recently, we were treated to some EE irony: Lad’s lad Phil Mitchell managed to contain his frustration and attempt to be understanding in his quest to find out whether his effeminate son was gay, whilst Masood, apparently more tolerant and understanding of homosexuality, found it difficult to cope after seeing evidence of his son’s sexuality, um, first-hand. Here I explore their reactions.

There has to be conflict, says Nitin

Nitin Ganatra hopes to see more conflict in store for Christian and Syed.

’EastEnders’ star Nitin Ganatra has said that he would like to see more "conflict" in store for characters Christian and Syed.

According to Digital Spy, the actor, who plays Masood Ahmed in the show, said: "One part of me would like to see them together and then go for civil marriage and then adoption."

"The problem is, though, once you’ve found happiness in soapland, that’s usually the end of your lifespan in the show."
