Kalidas promises return will be exciting, emotional drama

The actress chats about her return to screen as Amira Masood

She fled Walford secretly pregnant and in tears at husband Syed’s revelation of an affair with Christian, but after 17 months away Amira will be back on tv screens in equally dramatic style, teases Preeya Kalidas.

Describing her return as ‘really exciting’ during a chat with BBC Asian Network, Kalidas revealed that her alter-ego gave birth to a daughter off-screen, but is being held prisoner in her £2 million home by her controlling father.

Preeya Kalidas will be stepping back into her role as Amira Masood later this year, it was announced in the Daily Mirror.

Amira was last seen fleeing Albert Square while secretly pregnant with Syed’s child, following revelations about his affair with Christian. Now, as her estranged husband and his partner organise their up-coming civil partnership, it is reported that Amira will be returning to Walford to put paid to those plans.

Masood and Zainab are trying to pretend that everything is ok infront of Tamwar. Zainab isn't feeling well but still goes to work at the Minute Mart. Syed arrives and, knowing that everything isn't ok with his parents, tries to suggest to Zainab that she and his father get some help but Zainab refuses forcing Syed to snap. Zainab starts to cry and for a moment they come together but Zainab pushes him away insisting she is fine. Christian is watching and thinks Zainab is being unfair to Syed, he interrupts them but is left hurt when Syed tells him to stay out of it.

EastEnders actress Nina Wadia has revealed that she would love her character Zainab Masood to cause fireworks at son Syed's next wedding.

Reports earlier this month suggested that Syed could tie the knot again later this year after his boyfriend Christian Clarke proposes to him in upcoming scenes.

Zainab's son Syed is currently in a relationship with Christian Clarke, something Zainab takes a dim view of.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Wadia revealed: "Her homophobia is very hard to play, and it's the only thing I really hate about Zainab. As an actor, you worry that people out there might believe that you're like that in real life, and I am so not!

EastEnders to feature its first gay wedding

Ready the confetti - Christian and Syed look set to tie the knot later this year.

Christian Clarke will pop the question to partner Syed Masood next month, reports the Daily Mirror, setting the scene for the soap’s first gay wedding.

The paper reports that plans are underway for the Clarke-Masood nuptials, which could be Walford’s ‘biggest event of the summer.’

Bosses are reportedly hoping that the happy occasion will provide some welcome cheer after the record number of complaints received for this year’s Baby Swap storyline.

Syed's life hangs in the balance

It's the night of Tamwar and Afia's Mangni (engagement party) and plans are in full swing.  Greg tries to fix the damage at the Argee Bhajee before that night's celebrations but he warns Masood the extension is dangerous and the restaurant should be closed until it has been repaired.  Masood foolishly decides to ignore his advice and go ahead with the party.

EastEnders actress Nina Wadia has admitted she misses filming scenes with screen son Marc Elliott.

Speaking on ’Loose Women’, the actress, who plays Zainab in the show, said that she misses working closely with Elliott, who plays her on-screen son Syed, since their characters fell out.

She said: "I do hope that Zainab learns a lesson at some point. I miss working with Marc."

Viewers will see John’s character hatch a plan to get best friend Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons) pregnant.
