EastEnders star breaks ankle

Barbara Windsor has broken her ankle in a fall, confirms her manager.

The EastEnders star slipped on her stairs in her London home, fracturing her ankle in two places, according to Barry Burnett.

The 66-year-old underwent surgery today and is expected to be in hospital for a "couple more days yet".

The accident caps off a bad year for the former Carry On star, who has been suffering from a rare virus.

She was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus in March but is now recovering well, according to Mr Burnett.

Costa del Silly. That would have been an apropos title for the EastEnders sequence that has just aired here in the U.S. I have no problems with sending the denizens of Albert Square to places other than the EastEnd; after all, people do travel, & when properly done, location shooting can help propel a plot. Good examples of this in the past on EastEnders include the very first location story in Venice, which featured Den & Angie Watts. They went to Venice in a vain attempt to repair their marriage & because Den believed Angie to have only 6 months left to live.

In view of the current Olympic coverage, I thought it might be nice to award the residents of Walford (past and present) some medals of their own. So, without further ado…

For Non-Stop Whinging: no contest here, Lisa Shaw gets the gold; in previous years, Gita Kapoor & Bianca Butcher both worked this area, but neither ever achieved the truly staggering heights of Lisa Shaw. So, no Silver or Bronze awarded in this category!
