Jo Joyner, Michael French win in All About Soap awards.

EastEnders is fighting back after coming out joint top in the first major soap awards of the year.

The hit BBC1 show shared the honours with Hollyoaks after they won three gongs each in the annual All About Soap Awards. Coronation Street and Emmerdale received a gong each, voted for by readers.

Albert Square’s Jo Joyner won Best Actress for her portrayal of cancer-stricken Tanya Jessop, as well as being voted Best Couple with her on-screen hubby Max Branning (Jake Wood).

Jo Joyner has claimed that EastEnders fans are divided over her character Tanya Jessop's reunion with ex-husband Max.

Tanya ended her affair with Max in August after learning she may have cancer, subsequently Max left Walford. Since then, Tanya has been battling cervical cancer with only daughter Lauren for support.  

However, Max returns home later this week and is keen to support Tanya when he finds out about her illness.

When Tanya questions Abi’s recent behaviour, she is shocked when Cora hands her a positive pregnancy test which she has found in Abi’s bag.

As Tanya confronts Abi, Max arrives back and is not happy….How will Abi explain this?

“Tanya is shocked when she sees the pregnancy test and it makes matters worse when Max arrives back. Abi tries to explain that the pregnancy test is Lola’s but will they believe her?"

This episode airs on Wednesday 23rd November.

Jo Joyner has spoken about the responsibility and gratitude she feels at portraying Walford alter-ego Tanya Jessop's cancer storyline.

In next week's episodes, viewers will see Tanya refuse doctors' pleas to continue treatment for her cervical cancer. She then goes partying at the Vic where her rowdy behaviour attracts attention from the locals.
