June fronts new BBC season

June Brown will present a documentary as part of a BBC season on aging.

The programme has the working title June Brown: Why Old People Matter, with the 85-year-old actress raising her concerns about what she sees as a lack of respect for the elderly in the UK and a divide between young and old.

She will meet elderly people and those in the public eye to find out their views on society's attitude to ageing and will also face "her own plans for how to grow old gracefully".

More cast departures

Meryl Ferandes is the latest to jump ship.

Meryl Fernandes - Afia Khan has left EastEnders and has already filmed her final scenes, which will be aired in June. This was confirmed by a report on 'Digital Spy'.

In the programme Tamwar and Afia have been through a difficult period after a fire at the Bed and Breakfast at Christmas and issues with Tamwar and Yusef Khan.

June denies rumours that her departure from EastEnders is permanent. 

EastEnders legend June Brown has denied rumours she is leaving the soap for good.

The 85-year-old veteran actress, who is currently on a six-month break from playing Dot Branning in the BBC show, previously hinted she may not return to her famous role.

According to The Sun, she said: "My contract ended and I want to do something else. As an actress, you don't want to always plod away at the same thing. I don't know how long I will be out. I have no idea if I will go back."

Dot is surprised by a party to celebrate her 50th anniversary of working in the laundrette, after she thinks everyone has forgotten about it. Fatboy and Heather, amongst others make her feel special and surprise her with a short trip away to Ireland and a plaque to commemorate her 50 year service.

When Dot heads to Southend in search of her sister she is surprised to see she is living in an expensive looking house. Rose gloats to Dot about her rich husband, showing her a picture, and she explains that he has since passed away. The pair begin to bicker and,not wanting to get into an argument, Dot decides to leave. Later, Dot has a change of heart and returns to her sister's home but she soon discovers that all is not as it seems...

The Future Looks Rose-y for Dot

Dot is to reunite with sister Rose later this year.

Dot tearfully says goodbye to husband Jim this week, but she won’t be on her own for too long. EastEnders has announced that the Walford stalwart will reunite with her estranged sister Rose later this summer.

An EastEnders source teases that Rose once had an affair with Dot’s then-husband Charlie Cotton, leading to a lasting rift between the sisters, and that Rose won’t be best pleased when Dot tracks her down to make amends. But is there another reason for her cold reception?

EastEnders stalwart June Brown has predicted that her character Dot Branning will feel 'very lonely' without her husband Jim living with her. 

In emotional scenes coming up on the soap, viewers will see Dot finally accept that ailing Jim needs to be moved into a care home as she can no longer look after him herself.

Dot makes the tough decision after another difficult day of caring for Jim takes its toll, leading to her breaking down in tears.
