One of Albert Square’s ­darkest characters will exit Walford this Christmas – and it could be in a body bag.

EastEnders bosses will not ­confirm if twisted Derek Branning will be killed off but rumours are rife the baddie will meet a grizzly end.

The eldest of the Branning clan, he has had a huge impact ever since soap bosses cast Jamie Foreman, 54, in the part last year.

Last week Jamie, inset, was spotted filming on location, with a gang of thugs chasing his character.

EastEnders actor Jamie Foreman has revealed he hopes to keep making films, despite becoming a soap star.

Jamie - who has had big screen roles in Nil By Mouth, Layer Cake and Roman Polanski's Oliver Twist - reckons playing a soap villain could boost his film fanbase.

Alfie set to show his dark side

EastEnders star Shane Ritchie has promised fans of the soap that they are set to see a darker side to his loveable alter ego Alfie Moon now he has teamed up with evil Derek Branning.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, the actor said that the new partnership would have an effect on his character - but added that he would like to see him remain a hero. "I think we're going to see another side of Alfie - the dark side of the Moon!" joked Shane.

EastEnders' Derek Branning will demand half of Phil Mitchell's empire after the Walford bad boy faces a life behind bars.

With the burly mechanic - played by Steve McFadden - facing murder charges over the death of Kevin Wicks (Phil Daniels), the East End gangster issues him a dramatic ultimatum and says unless he makes him a partner in the Mitchell businesses, he will take them by force.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: "It is a clash of the titans. Phil knows his family are struggling but can he really lose face to Derek?"

EastEnders newcomer Jamie Foreman has revealed some of what the audience can expect as his character Derek Branning settles into Albert Square.

Derek first appeared in a handful of episodes in 1996, portrayed by Terence Beesley, where he caused trouble with his racist attitude and drunken behaviour.  

Derek now returns to Walford next week alongside his younger brother Max (Jake Wood), who has been away from the Square since August.
