Womack: 'Ronnie couldn't go further'

Samantha Womack talks to The Observer about leaving the role of Ronnie behind.

Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack has said that her character Ronnie Branning left the show at the right time.

Womack announced her decision to leave the soap earlier this year amid the controversial baby swap plot involving her character. Her final scenes saw Ronnie imprisoned for her drastic actions which took place over New Year.

Other hard-hitting storylines featuring Ronnie included the death of daughter Danielle and revealing that she had been abused by her father Archie.

Dominic Treadwell-Collins has been Series Story Producer at EastEnders since 2007, and works closely with the core writing team in coming up with storylines for the show. Walford Web were lucky enough to catch up with Dominic recently to talk about his time with the show and some of his favourite storylines of the past few years.

You’ve been in the role of Story Producer for three years now. Can you choose a favourite storyline from that time? One you’re most proud of, perhaps?

So, apologies again for the very sporadic updates this week. From time to time, work takes over and when you’re away from home as well, it’s difficult to find the time to update!

After a few weeks of three episodes (or missing episodes through embargoes) it’s nice to be able to bring you details of two and a half hours of EastEnders loveliness, as we get an hour-long episode on Thursday 1 April, presumably to make up for the mess and pointlessness that is Sport Relief.

Top 20 moments of the Decade : Part 1

EastEnders scores award hat trick

EastEnders has picked up three prizes at the TV Quick and TV Choice awards, including best soap.

The BBC show won best soap storyline, for the episodes where character Danielle Jones revealed she was Ronnie
Mitchell’s long-lost daughter.

Lauren Crace, who played Danielle, also took home the acting award for best soap newcomer.

Coronation Street stars Simon Gregson and Katherine Kelly were awarded the best soap actor and actress prizes.

Dead and Buried

Recently there was outrage when EastEnders killed off Danielle Jones (Lauren Crace) after a long drawn out storyline which finally saw Ronnie reunited with the daughter she thought she had lost before losing her in a cruel twist of fate forever. This angered many fans and even got support of 50,000 people who joined a networking group demanding her return! but unlike Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) Danielle is dead and buried.
