Clare Bates

Why do we love returns?

’Why can’t they come up with new characters instead of always relying on the past?’ is a question often asked everytime a cast return is announced. In theory it is true. Why bring back past characters when new one’s are yet to be established? I don’t know the answer as I don’t work at EastEnders, however there have been well over half a dozen new characters introduced since current producer Diederick Santer took over. Many of whom are now key characters in their own right.

Gemma makes second EastEnders exit

Viewers will be hooked in a couple of weeks' time when Gemma Bissix - aka scheming Clare Bates - exits BBC One soap EastEnders for the second time.

She filmed her final scenes last month, and spoke to Digital Spy about her experience of being a part of the soap, and what the future holds for her.

The minx played with Bradley's (Charlie Clements) heartstrings before leaving, but according to Bissix, what we've seen of the character is just the beginning. "This isn't a closed chapter," she insisted.

Brenda Boyle?!

Actually this article is not solely about Ms Boyle, there are strange elements in EastEnders that I feel need airing...

Gemma Bissix to leave

Gemma Bissix is to leave EastEnders later this year, it has been confirmed.

The actress, who plays maneater Clare Bates, will leave the show when her character's selfish intentions are exposed.

A Walford source told The Mirror: "Clare has been working her way round the men of Walford for the past few months but what she had thought was a masterplan to bag the man of her dreams soon gets out of hand.

"She is forced to flee as it is clear she is not welcome in Albert Square anymore."

Morons and Mysteries

There are certain characters and storylines in EastEnders which puzzle me. Pointless, directionless and frankly boring. But before I get carried away, let me clarify exactly what I mean:

Vinnie Monks

The Beale Dramas

Lucy has been gone for weeks. Ian and Jane have been tearing their hearts out and Peter is devastated, he has lost part of himself. Bobby doesn’t have a clue what is going on. Even Christian has shown sadness over missing Lucy and he hired a private investigator for the family. Yet Steven is living with this yet still hiding Lucy out at a caravan! The heartless brat.

Missed Opportunities

Are several good storylines or potential storylines being wasted? Betty thinks so.

Last time I wrote I wrote about how many characters hadn’t been explored and their character opportunities had been lost when they could have been huge for the show. Today I plan to write about the huge possible storylines that have been wasted or are being wasted as we speak.

Spring is Sprung

So, the axe has fallen in Albert Square......

Gus: I didn't realise he was actually still in the programme

Mickey and Keith: Apparently the characters 'had run out of steam', more a case of the writers running out of ideas.

Steven: Has more than run his course -he needs to go back to New Zealand, sort out his problems, get a head transplant and return as a different actor. Maybe.
