The actor is ’absolutely delighted’ to celebrate 1000 episodes on EastEnders.
Since arriving in E20 back in 1999, Billy Mitchell has been plagued by an impressive run of bad luck including homelessness, two failed marriages, and endless prat-falls. But actor Perry Fenwick, who plays the hapless Mitchell, had reason to celebrate last week, as he chalked up his 1000th episode appearance in the Walford soap.
Fenwick said he was ’absolutely delighted’ with the achievement, and revealed that he had originally only been contracted for four episodes.
"996 episodes later, I still haven’t been found out," he quipped.
Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood paid tribute to Billy Mitchell as "the most loveable loser on British TV" and said that "despite a thousand episodes of bad luck, the audience are still willing him to succeed."
Actor Perry joins a select group of 12 other EastEnders actors with over 1000 appearances to their names. The scene in Fenwick’s 1000th episode, which was filmed on Friday, features Billy and Jay Brown, played by Jamie Borthwick. The episode will air in the autumn.
