Kalidas: Storyline Aftermath ‘quite distressing’

When EastEnders viewers last saw Amira Shah, she was being driven out of Walford in her father’s car and away from the fall-out of the Christian/Syed affair.

“I had no idea what was going to happen [when Amira left],” revealed Preeya Kalidas, but curiosity got the better of the actress who tuned in to see what became of her on-screen husband after her departure.

"It was actually quite distressing,” she told the Holy Soap website. "The moment that was really upsetting was when Zainab told Syed she would rather he died than being gay. That was so heartbreaking."

The ill-fated Christian/Syed/Amira love triangle was one of EastEnders’ biggest storylines this year, and the reveal was watched by a reported 9.3 million viewers back in April. The reveal also coincided with Amira’s departure from The Square, after Kalidas quit the soap to concentrate on her singing career.
