Todd turns his back on soap

Todd Carty may have appeared in Grange Hill, EastEnders and The Bill, but he draws the line at starring in another soap.

"I have to say I’m not missing the world of soap," said 45-year-old Todd, who is strapping on his skates to appear in Dancing On Ice.

"I’ve been doing some reasonably interesting things. I’ve directed six episodes of Doctors for the BBC and I’ve got a production company with my wife so I’ve been wearing some different hats. I’ve been doing soap since I was 13 and I’m, er, 21 now, so it’s been quite a long time," he said.

Todd, perhaps best known for playing Mark Fowler in EastEnders, said he finds it hard to even watch a soap now.

"I think most actors will say that once you leave a soap you tend to shed your skin and you check in every now and again to see what’s going on but I’m certainly not an avid watcher.

"After doing them for 15-20 years watching them is a bit like a busman’s holiday," he said.

Todd can be seen trying his luck in the rink on Dancing On Ice on Sunday, January 11 on ITV1.
