Accurate storylines at the heart of Tanya's story.
Two doctors from the Royal Cornwall Hospital have been helping BBC producers with a story in EastEnders.
In the soap, Tanya Jessop, who is played by Jo Joyner, was diagnosed with cervical cancer following a smear test.
Tito Lopes, the clinical lead for gynaecological cancer services, and consultant radiotherapist Alistair Thompson were asked for their advice. Mr Lopes and his team helped to make sure Tanya's story was as close to reality as possible.
Mr Lopes said: "I hope it is really realistic because Alistair and I have had a major part in advising them."
Mr Thompson said: "The writers have been very careful in trying to be as accurate as possible, asking all sorts of questions about treatment side-effects and duration of treatment."
Mr Thompson added: "It's always a rush to get the diagnosis and treatment started as soon as possible. I think patients do feel a bit swamped and overawed by the whole process."
Robert Music, director of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, said "It is fantastic that EastEnders has decided to highlight the issue of cervical cancer.
"This is a disease that affects thousands of women, and their loved ones, in the UK every year."
