Laila Morse to compete in Dancing in Ice

Laila is favourite to be given the boot first though, so watch her while you can!

Laila Morse has laughed off claims from her family that she is too old to appear in the new series of Dancing On Ice – which starts on Sunday – explaining that she’s doing it to entertain people.

At 66, the EastEnders star is the oldest contestant in this year's series. The grandmother-of-five, who plays Mo Harris in the BBC1 soap, said: "My family all think I'm a nutcase. They say, 'How can you skate Nan, at your age?' But I'm going to give it a go and put my soul into it."

She added: "I've had an injury in my shoulder and I've torn a muscle so that's killing me 24/7. I've had some ultrasound and had a couple of injections. I can move my arms but not in certain ways.

"I'm just going to do what I can do, entertain people and make them laugh and that's it. If I can do it, anyone can."

Laila is one of 15 celebrities taking part in the show, appearing alongside stars like Corrie's Andy Whyment, Dallas Star Charlene Tilton, 1980s actor Corey Feldman, Sugababe Heidi Range and skier Chemmy Alcott.

There is no return for sharp-tongued and formerly-bald judge Jason Gardiner, with two new judges - former Olympic champion Katarina Witt and choreographer Louie Spence - joining Robin Cousins on the judging panel.

Also appearing in the series - fronted by Phillip Schofield and new host Christine Bleakley - are fitness guru Rosemary Conley, children's TV presenters Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes, actress Jennifer Ellison, TV presenter Andy Akinwolere, Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden, Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter, and founder of freerunning Sebastien Foucan.

Actress Jennifer is already the favourite to win, with Laila sadly tipped to be the first to leave on Sunday’s show.
