EastEnders fans fundraise for Stonewall
'Chryed' fans on Digital Spy start fundraising effort for gay, lesbian and bisexual charity
Christian Clarke and Syed Masood fans are attempting to raise £2,000 for gay, lesbian and bisexual charity Stonewall after being inspired by their storyline.
Following a turbulent start to their relationship the pair officially became a couple in July 2010, when Syed chose Christian against the disapproval of his strict Muslim family.
The couple have attracted a large following on the Digital Spy forums where the fans recently celebrated reaching 200 parts of their fan thread 'Waiting for Chryed to Get It On'. The fans from the thread are now planning a mass donation to Stonewall to mark the success of their storyline.
A statement from the fundraising page reads: "Watching Christian and Syed together has not only melted our hearts but reinforced our need for them to be together, despite all the opposition they face. EastEnders' 3D view of the story has strengthened our values, ethics and views over homosexuality.
"We believe that every person should be free from ridicule, abuse, oppression and bullying, regardless of who they love or are attracted to. We also support and endorse the need for people to educate others about equality, tolerance and acceptance. This is why we have chosen Stonewall charity."
