Tanya's cancer diagnosis won't remain a secret, says Jo Joyner

Jo Joyner speaks to Inside Soap about her character's upcoming cervical cancer diagnosis.

EastEnders star Jo Joyner has revealed that her character Tanya Jessop will eventually confide in someone about her illness.

Tanya was recently left shell-shocked after receiving abnormal smear test results, and later this week doctors will confirm her worst fears - that she has cervical cancer. Wanting to protect her children, Tanya chooses to keep the diagnosis to herself.

However, speaking to Inside Soap, Joyner confirmed that one of Walford's residents will discover her secret.

She said: "The doctor asks Tanya if there's anybody she could tell, but she explains that she's left her husband and her best friend Jane Beale has gone, so there isn't anyone.

"But somebody does find out about her cancer - and that's who she ends up confiding in."

EastEnders bosses worked closely with various cancer charities when devising Tanya's storyline.
