Kalidas promises return will be exciting, emotional drama
The actress chats about her return to screen as Amira Masood
She fled Walford secretly pregnant and in tears at husband Syed’s revelation of an affair with Christian, but after 17 months away Amira will be back on tv screens in equally dramatic style, teases Preeya Kalidas.
Describing her return as ‘really exciting’ during a chat with BBC Asian Network, Kalidas revealed that her alter-ego gave birth to a daughter off-screen, but is being held prisoner in her £2 million home by her controlling father.
Viewers will be able to access special BBC red button scenes on the 6th and 8th of September depicting Amira’s difficult situation at home. Ramon Tikaram will also reprise his role as the uncompromising Qadim Shah.
Amira’s official return to Albert Square will follow in October.
Asked what her return storyline has in store, the actress promised ‘Drama - a lot of drama. It's going to get emotional. It's EastEnders, it's got to!
‘[Amira]'s having a tough time of it. She's a defiant woman who's defying her dad, and she comes back to the Square and ends up facing the man who broke her heart.’
The EastEnders official site has also released teasers about Amira’s return. A statement reveals that ‘Syed's frustrations begin to grow as his attempts to re-connect with Amira and seek a divorce meet with no success’ but that he receives help from an ‘unexpected source’ while Qadim must decide whether to let Syed make contact with his daughter once again.
It also describes the red button scenes as ‘Amira's world away from the Square and the repercussions that these events might bring to Syed and Christian's relationship’.
