EastEnders star Jake Wood has argued that Max Branning still loves his ex-wife Tanya.
The couple's marriage broke down following the revelation that Max had been sleeping with daughter-in-law Stacey Slater in 2007. However in a recent storyline the pair have embarked on a passionate affair together behind their current partners backs.
Speaking to The Mirror, Wood insisted that Max loves his former spouse.
He said: "Max enjoys the machinations of an affair. His relationship with Tanya is an emotional game of cat and mouse. But I think he does love her and he's desperate to get her back.
"I love working with Jo Joyner. That relationship has always felt very real, so I'd love them to get back together and be a family again."
Wood also claimed he is nothing like his Walford alter-ego.
"I'm nothing like Max", he said.
