EastEnders to feature its first gay wedding

Ready the confetti - Christian and Syed look set to tie the knot later this year.

Christian Clarke will pop the question to partner Syed Masood next month, reports the Daily Mirror, setting the scene for the soap’s first gay wedding.

The paper reports that plans are underway for the Clarke-Masood nuptials, which could be Walford’s ‘biggest event of the summer.’

Bosses are reportedly hoping that the happy occasion will provide some welcome cheer after the record number of complaints received for this year’s Baby Swap storyline.

“If everything goes ahead, Christian and Syed will be the biggest stars on the soap providing some happy news after the baby swap storyline which went down so badly with viewers,” a source says.

The soap couple first courted controversy a couple of years ago when they embarked on their secret affair, culminating in an explosive reveal last summer when Syed left wife Amira for Christian. Syed has since struggled with his faith and becoming estranged from the rest of the Masood family. Viewers should keep their eyes on Walford for the drama that the wedding is sure to bring the couple's way.
