Site Tour

Welcome to the home of EastEnders on the Internet!

Walford Web was launched on 28 February 1997, and was one of the first sites devoted to EastEnders - to put that into some perspective we're several years older than the official BBC EastEnders site.

We initially concentrated on providing full write-ups of every episode, but that proved to be an incredibly difficult thing to do, so we unfortunately stopped doing that in January 2000. Since then, we've concentrated on bringing you News, Spoilers, Gossip and it's our aim to be the best independent site out there.

As we've been around since 1997, it can be a bit daunting to find your way around the site, so we've tried to be logical with our layout.

At the end of 2010 we converted our website to Drupal - a heavyweight content management system to replace the home-coded one that we'd used for the last six years or so. We're putting the finishing touches to converting the articles and pictures for the new site, so sometimes things might look a bit odd - bear with us while we finish this task as there are over 3,000 pieces of content to update, reformat and check.

What's where?

We've put our content into clearly defined sections, which can be accessed through the links at the top of the page.

The News area of the site brings you the latest EastEnders headlines, and we try to bring you something new to read every day. Occasionally we can't, and that's typically because the news sources have dried up so there's nothing to report.

We're particularly proud of our Features. These are written by our features editors, all of whom are volunteers giving up their time to write their thoughts on EastEnders, both past and present. There's a large number of different columns for you to explore in the Features area. If you're interested in becoming a writer for us, just get in touch!

Next up are probably what you've come to the site to find, our Spoilers. Spoilers are brief tidbits explaining what's coming up in EastEnders in the next few weeks - they're usually updated every Thursday or Friday. We're lucky enough to be given detailed Spoilers every week which we use to expand on the basic BBC spoilers.

Once episodes air, they drop off the Spoiler list but the details can still be found in the Episodes zone. We go right back to February 1997 (with a couple of gaps), but you can read up on your EastEnders history and get up to date there, handy if you're watching EastEnders from afar.

While we continue to convert to Drupal, you may find some of our episode summaries are temporarily offline. We're working to re-add these as quickly as possible, but it's a manual task to do them as they could not be imported automatically.

If you want to know who's who in EastEnders, you can find this on our sister site - Walford Wiki. It currently uses a different piece of software, but we're planning to migrate the Wiki into the main version of Walford Web in the next year or so.

Another hugely popular area are our Galleries. We're licensed to use the BBC's official press photos, and there's hundreds of them to choose from, all sorted into galleries by character.

Last not least on our whistle-stop menu tour are the Forums - which are a sister site over at Walford Web Forums. Membership is free, but you don't need to register to view. However, we strongly recommend you sign up for an account with us because if the forums are busy we sometimes restrict them to registered members only.

Seasonal items

From time to time, we'll add popular items to the menu, for example the spin off "E20" appeared for a while as a menu item.

To do a search, just enter the search phrase into the box at the top of the page. We also show you related items whenever you're viewing an article in a box in the right hand column. There's loads of ways to find what you're looking for, or just go on a random journey to see what you can find.

That's your lot

So we're into our 14th year now and don't plan giving up any time soon. Dive in - try the Spoilers, News or a Search for your favourite character, and take it from there!
