’Enders favourite considered quitting
McFadden: This year is my most challenging and exciting in Enders
EastEnders favourite Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell, has spoken about the exit of Barbara Windsor from the soap.
Windsor plays McFadden’s screen mum Peggy in the soap and has decided to quit her role after 16 years.
McFadden teased that the popular Albert Square matriarch would be leaving the show on a high as part of an exciting new plotline.
Speaking to The Mirror, the actor said "I am pleased for Barbara because she has worked hard and deserves this part of her life. She is a canny bird and she has played a blinder because she is going out on a massive high.
"She is going to be involved in one of the biggest and best storylines ever. So she is going out on the top of her game."
Speaking of how the cast celebrated Windsor’s time with the show, he added "We had a barbecue. There was no champagne as Barbara doesn’t drink so I got her Dover sole. I didn’t want her eating any dodgy fish fingers."
Windsor filmed her final scenes for the show last week.
