It’s A Wrap! Windsor films final ’Enders scene
Lucas Special Planned For BBC Three
The BBC confirmed this week that extra scenes from the Lucas Johnson storyline will be available to EastEnders viewers. The scenes, exclusive to Sky, Virgin and Freeview viewers will be accessible via the BBC red button service.
The extra material, which have been described as a further insight into ’the dark side of Lucas Johnson,’ will be available on the 26th, 27th, 29th and 30th of July. Fans will be able to view them from when the episodes end and up to midnight on those dates.
The preacher-turned-murderer storyline has come under a lot of criticism in recent weeks for its dark and "anti-Christian" nature. Last month, particular scenes were also re-written to avoid any connection with the real-life Bradford prostitute murders.
This week the plotline came into further criticism for racial stereotyping. Responding to those criticisms in the Radio Times magazine, head of BBC drama production John Yorke described actor Don Gilet as being ’ecstatic’ with his character’s plot-twist, adding that ’the good intentions of the white liberal media had the effect of denying black men interesting roles.’
He went on to say: ’While you have to be careful about representation, if all actors aren’t allowed equal rights to play whatever stories come up, then a whole new type of far more insidious racism comes into place.’
