Richie arranged schedule around Enders omnibus

When Alfie Moon arrived on the Square back in 2002, his Nana and brother Spencer were not far behind. Actor Shane Richie has been talking to Walford Web about his affection for late actress Hilda Braid who played Victoria ‘Nana’ Moon on the soap.

Citing the Normandy episode as a highlight from his previous Walford stint, Richie paid tribute to the writing and direction and said that it ’genuinely brought a lump to my throat.’

’Hilda was a lovely, lovely lady and we laughed, especially on the ferry travelling over to France,’ he said.

The actor went on to say that the actress had ’become family in real life’ and reminisced about the time he put her in charge of a family barbeque: ’Every time someone went for something, she would say, "Just a minute dear, I don’t think it’s ready yet and you have to be so careful with undercooked meat!"’

Of his tears during Braid’s final episode, he said ’It was the Christmas special, and suddenly it hit me that I wouldn’t be working with Hilda again.’

’She was lovely and she’s missed.’
