I’m still winning the "useless at doing updates" award, but that’s because things have been a bit busy in the last few weeks.
When I did my interview with Betty a few weeks ago as part of the EastEnders 25 celebrations I made a passing comment there to say that it’d be nice if we could have some sort of proper game on the site for people to play. At the time, it was just an off-the-cuff comment with no substance to it.
A couple of weeks after saying that I had one of those random revelations that normally come to you when you’re doing something ridiculous like sitting on the toilet or just waking up first thing in the morning. Fortunately for me, it was the latter. :) And lo, Fantasy EastEnders was born.
Fantasy EastEnders is a celebrity shares-trading game, where you buy and sell shares in EastEnders characters. You start off with a fictional 10,000 pounds, and the goal is to make the biggest percentage increase on a weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday.
You earn money either through day-trading on the shares themselves, i.e. if people think Stacey is going to be popular you could buy shares before everyone else, and then sell them for a vast profit when everyone has bought them. But beware of day-trading - you can win and lose vast amounts of money if you trade at the wrong time.
The other way to earn money is through dividend bonuses, which we pay after every episode, based on a character’s involvement in it. The formula we use is a closely-guarded secret. However, if you want to earn your dividends you have to hold shares for a full seven days - if you have them for less than seven then you’ll only get a part payment.
It sounds complicated - trust me, it isn’t. :) We opened for open testing yesterday afternoon and so far we have about 25 players. We’d love to get even more, as that’s the only way the market will fluctuate properly.
So, visit Fantasy EastEnders, register and get playing!

We relaunched our site in February 2010. Since the relaunch we've found that most of the site looks and works really well, but the top of the page was a bit messy and uninteresting. We've changed a few sections as an experiment.
The menu at the top of the page is still exactly the same as on other pages of the site and everything else is largely in the same place as before. It's just a bit more colourful, and we hope it's more attractive.
